Thames Barge "Kathleen", 1880

1:80 scale wooden kit from "Authentic Models Holland".
The history of merchant ships is not filled with only large square riggers used on worldwide voyages, but also with many smaller coastal sailing vessels, needed to trade and freight where larger ships were too expensive or impractical.
The Kathleen was one of a vast fleet of Thames Barges which once worked on London`s tideway.
She, herself, has no particular claim to fame. Certainly she has led an eventful life -- she was once sunk in collision, was later washed op onto a beach in a gale, was reduced to being a lighter and has now been rerigged.

I enjoyed the photographs.

Will you be interested in making models of water transportation of eastern India of 17th-19th centuries?

I am working on terrcotta temples of Bengal(eastern India) and have quite a few photos of boats of those days.Bengal attracted a lot of traders, including those from Europe during that period.

You may see my articles in hubpages.com/shyamchat and http://shyamalchatterji.googlepages.com/terracottatemplesofbengal

Even if you are not interested in these boats, pl refer my articles to your friends who may be intersted in these types of articles.

best wishes.
